Downtown Construction Updates

Front Entrance of Oakville Centre

The Oakville Centre will receive a new sleek glass and steel entrance canopy over the summer with an expected completion in early October.

Access to the Box office during construction is available through the side door of the lobby. Access for Summer Camp Programs is available through the stage door at the rear of the theatre.
Due to construction of new footings for the canopy’s concrete columns on the ramp from Navy Street and hoarding on Centennial Square, the ramp and side entrance is temporarily not accessible to those with mobility issues. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause however it’s unavoidable given the location of the construction.

Please visit the box office on line  or call 905-815-2021 or toll free at 1-888-489-7784 for assistance.

Lakeshore bridge closed. Reopens December 2017

The Lakeshore Road Bridge at Sixteen Mile Creek is closed until December 2017 for reconstruction. A detour route will be provided.

All businesses along Lakeshore Road on either side of the bridge, as well as the library,
the theatre, and Centennial Pool remain open and accessible during construction

We appreciate your patience during construction.

A detour route around the bridge will be provided via Kerr Street, Rebecca Street and Navy Street. All businesses, the library, the theatre and Centennial Pool remain open and accessible during construction.

Once complete, the new bridge will include:

  • two travel lanes and bikes lanes
  • a wider pedestrian sidewalk with a barrier wall to separate the sidewalk and vehicular traffic
  • new pedestrian railings and lookouts
  • LED lighting
  • the Lakeshore Road approaches to the bridge between Navy Street and Forsythe Street will also be reconstructed

NEW! Navy Street is now two-way!

On January 5, in preparation for the bridge closure, Navy Street was permanently converted to two-way traffic between Lakeshore and Rebecca/Randall streets. Signs are posted around the area to notify drivers of the change. As part of the Council approved Downtown Transportation and Streetscape Study (DTS), Navy Street is one of several streets in downtown Oakville scheduled to be converted to two-way operation. The other streets are still in the detailed design phase and are scheduled to be converted in 2018.

New Pedestrian Crosswalk in front of the Oakville Centre

The new pedestrian crossover device is at the intersection of Navy Street and Church Street (in front of Centennial Square). Several new crossovers are planned to be installed across town in 2017 starting with the Navy and Church street location. Pedestrian crossovers have specific pavement markings and crossing signs. There are three types of crossovers. The crossover at Navy and Church has poles, flashing beacons above the signs and pedestrian push buttons. Unlike pedestrian crosswalks at traffic signal locations, at a crossover, drivers and cyclists must stop behind the yield line and wait until the pedestrian completely crosses the road before proceeding.
