Theatre Etiquette

Ticket holder requirements and best practices for behaviour in the theatre.

Scent advisory

The Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts encourages a scent-free environment. Please be considerate of those in the audience who may have allergies and/or multiple chemical sensitivities and refrain from wearing cologne, perfume or other scented products.

Entry

Each person must have a ticket to enter. Doors to the lobby will open 45 minutes prior to the performance, unless otherwise noted. Doors to the main auditorium open 30 minutes prior to the performance. There will always be a house manager on hand to answer questions and assist patrons.

Late arrivals

Running late? You will be seated at a suitable break in the performance. On-stage performances are shown on lobby monitors for the convenience of those waiting.

Mobile devices

Cameras, video cameras and recording devices are prohibited inside the theatre. In the event of any disturbances, ushers may ask those individuals responsible to leave the auditorium. Once a performance begins, all mobile devices should be muted or turned off and any other audible distractions should be kept to a minimum.

Light snacks and an assortment of both non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages are usually available for sale in the lobby before the performance and at intermission. Please note the bar closes once the performance is in progress.

Food and outside containers are not permitted in the theatre. During select performances, all beverages purchased at our bar will be allowed in the theatre. Review the Venue Alcohol Guidelines for Patrons (pdf) for more details on our beverage service.

The Corporation of the Town of Oakville promotes the reduction of bottled water use. Filtered water is available.  Patrons may only bring empty water bottles to fill at the theatre.

In consideration of other patrons, please refrain from opening candy or gum wrappers during a performance.

Smoking

Smoking or e-cigarettes / vaping are not permitted on the premises or within 9 metres of any entrance.
